At the Core of System-Analysis: Forecasting Models

Energy consumption models require detailed knowledge of the present status as well as sound forecasts based on multidisciplinary evaluations.

Energy consumption is influenced by technological developments of all kinds in buildings, industrial processes, computers, vehicles, etc., and by present and future markets for these technologies, as well as by the behaviour of manufacturers, purchasers, investors and operators under future conditions. All these factors - and many others - should be integrated in a forecasting model. Developing simple and transparent models, which include all the important influencing factors, is essential to the "art of model building".

Accelerated Introduction of Energy-Efficient Technologies into the Market

Thorough investigation of new technologies in terms of their potential for energy conservation and dissemination of the investigations-results can make a large contribution to efficient energy use. Many technologies are ready to be introduced into the market, but due to the incomplete information of potential users, they are slow to be adopted and to penetrate the market. In recent years, all technologies investigated in this context have to do with information technology.

Efficient Energy Use and Energy Management

As long as energy price is low, factors other than energy cost, such as energy awareness and the structure of decision-making in firms, determine whether energy is used in a rational way or not. Energy consumption is mainly determined when equipment and technical installations are purchased and service and maintenance are institutionalized.

Analysis in the Service of Politics: Energy and Sustainability

Three energy analyses projects of recent years were aimed at improving the decision-making process in energy policy, both for government and business. This work is carried out in close collaboration with political scientists, economists and sociologists.
